Quick Answers

Does TextLayer provide books?

No. TextLayer does not provide books or copyrighted text content. You import your own EPUB files.

Does TextLayer require an account?

No. Core reading does not require an account.

Does TextLayer work offline?

Yes. Core EPUB reading works offline.

When is the network used?

Only optional connected features use the network, such as AI annotation through the endpoint you configure and cloud TTS through the endpoint you configure.

Do you store my books or API keys on your server?

No. TextLayer is designed so your books, settings, and API keys stay on your device. Optional AI and cloud TTS requests are sent directly to the third-party endpoint you configure.

Troubleshooting

My EPUB imported but looks wrong

Try another EPUB file or re-export the source file. EPUB formatting varies and some files may contain unusual markup.

AI annotation is unavailable

Check your endpoint URL, model name, API key, network connection, and whether the third-party service you configured is available.

Read-aloud is unavailable

For local voices, make sure system speech is available on the device.

For cloud TTS, check your endpoint URL, model name, API key, and whether the third-party TTS service is available.

I want to remove my data

Because TextLayer stores data locally on your device, you can remove imported files, clear local data, or remove the app from your device.
