These Terms of Use govern your use of TextLayer.

By downloading, installing, or using TextLayer, you agree to these terms.

1. What TextLayer is

TextLayer is a local-first EPUB reader. It is designed to help users read their own EPUB files and optionally use speaker labeling or read-aloud features.

TextLayer does not provide books or copyrighted text content.

2. Your content

You are responsible for the EPUB files, text, API credentials, and other content that you use with the app.

You must have the rights and permissions required to use any content you import into the app and any third-party services you connect to it.

3. Optional third-party services

Some features may send data directly to third-party endpoints that you configure, such as AI annotation or cloud TTS services.

You are solely responsible for:

• the endpoints you configure
• the API keys you use
• any charges from those services
• your compliance with those services' terms

TextLayer does not provide an account system or backend relay for those requests.

4. Permitted use

You may use TextLayer for lawful personal or business reading workflows.

You may not use TextLayer to:

• violate applicable law
• infringe intellectual property rights
• misuse third-party services
• reverse engineer or abuse the app beyond what applicable law allows

5. Availability

We may update, improve, limit, or discontinue parts of the app at any time.

We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of optional features that depend on device state, operating system behavior, imported files, or third-party endpoints.

6. No warranty

TextLayer is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis to the extent permitted by law.

We do not guarantee that:

• imported EPUB files will always parse perfectly
• third-party AI or TTS results will be accurate
• optional connected services will remain available
• local data will never be lost due to device, OS, or storage issues

7. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from your use of TextLayer.

This includes issues related to:

• imported files
• third-party AI or TTS services
• data loss on your device
• service interruption

8. Intellectual property

The TextLayer app, its interface, and its original software are protected by intellectual property law.

These terms do not grant you ownership of the app itself.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. The latest version should be the one linked from the App Store listing or support site.
